2016 Backroads Farm Tour set for July 16

Save the date for July 16!

On Saturday, July 16, 2016, the Campbell County Conservation District Farmland Work Group will present its eighth annual Backroads Farm Tour! Rain or shine, the event is a multi-stop, self-guided auto tour of Campbell County’s beautiful, working farms and wineries. The Tour will last from 9am-3pm.

Many stops will have food and drinks available for purchase, as well as farm-fresh produce, freezer beef, and more. The annual Tour presents a great opportunity to experience local Campbell County agriculture first-hand. Eleven diverse farms are featured on this year’s tour, and kids 12 and under will again be able to get their “farm tour passport” stamped from at least five tour stops to receive a free cone at Sharky’s Eats and Treats!

For more information, visit the Conservation District's Tour webpage or click here for the Tour brochure, which contains a map of and addresses for all the stops.

We look forward to seeing you out in Campbell County on July 16!

Emergency management to offer search and rescue training course

Campbell County's Office of Emergency Management invites the interested public to register to attend a training course, Search and Rescue in Community Disasters. It will be held at the County Fire Training Center in Highland Heights on April 22-23. The course is intended for all those living and working in the county who are most impacted when a disaster strikes.

The course is delivered at no charge and should be attended by everyone: community and service organizations (youth groups, American Red Cross, etc.), church groups, businesses, etc. It will span from 6-10pm on Friday, April 22, and then from 8am-5pm on Saturday, April 23. Participants will receive a survival guide, which includes a checklist and resources, including many of the search and rescue tactics that will be taught in the course.

Among the topics and concepts to be covered are:

  • Developing a survivor's mindset,
  • Preparing for a disaster,
  • Using common household items as rescue tools,
  • Determining when to wait for help or to evacuate, and
  • Beginning the recovery process.

The course is limited to 40 participants, and you must register by April 20. Click here for course details and here for other training opportunities. You can register online via this link.
